Electronic prescriptions in MyKanta.

A general educational overview of how electronic prescriptions and renewal requests are typically handled in Finland's national service.

In Finland, prescriptions issued by healthcare professionals are recorded electronically in the national Prescription Centre and are visible to the patient through MyKanta.

What users may generally do

  • View current and previous electronic prescription information.
  • Review prescription validity and dispensing details.
  • Print or save a prescription summary where the service supports it.
  • Submit a prescription renewal request to the responsible healthcare provider.
  • Follow the status of a renewal request.

About renewal requests

A renewal request is not automatically approved. It is reviewed by the responsible healthcare provider, doctor, or other authorised professional. Processing times and outcomes are determined by the provider, not by MyKanta.

If a request is declined, the user is typically informed and may be advised to book an appointment or contact the provider directly.

At the pharmacy

Because prescriptions are stored electronically, users can typically collect medication from any Finnish pharmacy by presenting valid identification. The pharmacy accesses the prescription from the national service.
